Daniel Leroy Shaffer, Sr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster surrounded by his loving family. Born February 23, 1945 in Westminster, he was the son of the late Paul Randolph and Rachel Margaret (Smith) Shaffer.
Dan worked as a group leader on the Maintenance Street Crew for the City of Westminster. Prior to his employment with the city, he worked at B&D Woodwork in Silver Run. He was a member of Meadow Branch Church of the Brethren in Westminster where he served on the Church & Pastor Relations Committee and the Stewardship Committee. He was also a member of the Westminster Moose Lodge 1381. He enjoyed collecting and listening to music and going to Lincoln Speedway and Trailway Speedway.
He is survived by children, Daniel Leroy Shaffer, Jr. and wife Kathy, Cheryl Beal and husband Terry, and Tim Stair, all of Westminster; grandchildren, Sabrina, Dustin, Josh, Curtis, Robbie, Amanda and Alicia; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Harold “Jack” and Floyd Shaffer; and sisters, Joan Arnsbrger, Janet Souers and Marian Thomas.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Meadow Branch Church of the Brethren, 818 Old Taneytown Rd., Westminster, MD, 21157 with Pastor Tom Richard officiating. Interment will follow in Meadow Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Meadow Branch Church of the Brethren at the above address.
