Dale L. Sillyman, Sr.

October 23, 1935 — February 17, 2016

Dale Leslie Sillyman, Sr., 80, of Gettysburg, PA, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at his daughter’s home in Hagerstown, MD.  Born October 23, 1935 in Kansas City, KS, he was the son of the late Zora and Nellie (Williams) Sillyman.  He was the husband of Sarah (Bennanzar) Sillyman, to whom he was married for almost 60 years.

Dale was a Radiation Safety Inspector at the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant in Calvert County, MD for many years.  He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Emmitsburg, MD, where he formerly sang in the choir, and was a former member of the Jessup, MD Lions Club.  Dale was a veteran of the United States Army.  He enjoyed fishing and gardening, and was known for the tomatoes he produced.  He was an avid Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens fan.  He loved to laugh, and his greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Brenda Perrey of Gettysburg, PA, Dale Sillyman, Jr. and wife Cheri of Columbia, MD,  Cheryl Ritter and husband David of Hagerstown, MD, and John Sillyman and wife Teri of Hanover, PA; brother, Lloyd Sillyman and wife Delores of Louisburg, KS; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 313 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD, 21727 with the Rev. Dr. Colin Phillips and Pastor Ed Wade officiating.  The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.  Interment will take place at Trinity Chapel Cemetery in Columbia, MD at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church at the above address.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Emmitsburg.
