Coach Andy Potter

April 17, 1973 — June 30, 2014

Andrew W. “Andy” Potter, 41, of Westminster, died peacefully Monday, June 30, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family following a valiant battle with cancer.  Born April 17, 1973 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Thomas “Tim” and Gail Tress Walters Potter of Artemas, PA.  He was the husband of Holly Gainor Potter, to whom he was married for 14+ years.

Andy was a 1991 graduate of Paint Branch High School in Burtonsville.  As a Frostburg State University Alumni, he majored in Education, Earth Science, and Geography and began his coaching/teaching career at Bishop Walsh.  He continued molding lives at Linganore High School, Trinity Lutheran Church, the FSK Jr. Eagles athletics, and in the community of State Farm Insurance. His passion for coaching included basketball, football, soccer, baseball, lacrosse, track and field, and swimming. As a life-long learner, he had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and undertook a variety of hobbies, including fishing, rock collecting, wood chipping, reading, planting, knitting, and furniture building. Always having a joke to tell and a story to share, he touched the lives of everyone he met.

In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by children, Drew and Alex Potter; sister, Tress Potter of Frederick; father- and mother-in-law, John and Lynda Gainor of Taneytown; sister- and brother-in-law, Crystal and Dave Perry of Taneytown; niece and nephews, Justin, Elaina, and Nathan; and several aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 6 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 W. Baltimore St, Taneytown, MD, with the Rev. Stacy Marsh officiating.  Please wear your favorite team jersey or shirt.  Committal will follow in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.
