Clara Marie Meyer

Clara Marie Meyer, age 97, died peacefully on Friday, October 6, 2023, with her family close to her. Born October 11, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Stanley Gilbert and Ora Gertrude Hatton.

Clara was predeceased by her loving husband, John D. Meyer, in 2009.

Clara grew up in Baltimore, graduated from Forest Park High School, and attended nursing school at Maryland General Hospital, graduating in 1946. She then attended Western Maryland College. In 1948, she married John, and together, they moved to “the farm” in Silver Run. In the mornings, she milked cows before heading off as a special duty nurse at Gettysburg General Hospital. Later, she worked at Carroll County Hospital from the day it opened. She also earned her real estate license to help with the bookkeeping and other duties with her husband, John’s career as a real estate broker. Together, Clara and John liked to travel all over the country in their RV and take cruises. She enjoyed maintaining a large garden on the farm. In her later years, she volunteered at Union Mills Homestead Historical Museum, dressing up in period-correct attire.  She was a longtime member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Westminster.

Clara is survived by her son, Daniel Meyer and wife Fiona of Westminster; daughter, Susan Wohlers and husband Dan of Punta Gorda, FL; grandchildren, Neina Frankfurth and husband Kirk of Westminster, Elizabeth Ann Reisig and husband Robert of Eldersburg, Adam Meyer and wife Lindsey of Glennville, PA, John Wohlers and wife Randi of Elizabethton, TN and Sarah McAlpine and husband Robert of Molino, FL; great-grandchildren, Orin, Abagail, Carter, Dylan, Logan, Natalie, Emily, Ethan, Skylynn, Merideth, Tristan Ansley, Winifred and Harriet.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, MD. The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow the service at Loudon Park Cemetery, 3620 Wilkins Ave, Baltimore, MD.
