Cherie Lea Shimmel

Cherie Lea Shimmel {Sakura Okayama) age 64 yrs old of New Windsor MD died on August 11th, 2024, at Westminster Health Care Nursing Home. She was born May 28th, 1960, in Tokyo Japan.

Cherie came to the USA in 1966 with her adopted parents Gordon and Rose Shimmel, when she was 6 yrs old.

Cherie attended school here in the USA for several years and attended Change Inc and West End Adult Day Care. She worked for Popeyes and Olive Garden in Westminster. She also loved to play bingo, enjoyed outings and watching movies. She attended church regularly at CMFI and she went to the Upper Room on Sunday afternoons

Cherie lived with Ann Magruder, her devoted care provider, for 28 years. They went everywhere together. Also, a part of her life were special friends Rev. Bob and Heidi Kapfer.

Visitation will be Monday August 19th, 2024, at 10am at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St Westminster MD 21157. A funeral service will follow at 11am at the funeral home with the Rev Bob and Heidi Kapfer. Burial will be in Western Chapel Cemetery.
