Charlotte Emma Reed, 79, of Thurmont, MD, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taneytown, MD. Born April 8, 1937 in Frederick County, MD, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Emma (Reckley) Davis.
Charlotte was a factory worker for many years, and was employed with a variety of companies, including Freeman Shoe Company, Thurmont Shoe Company, and Frederick Trading Company. She attended Morningstar Family Church in Thurmont. She enjoyed cooking, watching game shows, and spending time with her family.
Surviving are 4 sons, John “Butch” Reed, Jr. and fiancé Tracey Mummert of Orrtanna, PA, Ronald Reed and wife Wanda of Emmitsburg, MD, Kenneth Reed and wife Lisa of Charleroi, PA, and Michael Reed and wife Kim of Willards, MD; 8 grandchildren, Jeff, Keith, Steven, Brian, and Jason Reed, Stacey Reed-Little, Julie Reed-Kehne, and special granddaughter, Dawn Reed-Jeffcoat; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Reed and husband Kenneth, and brothers, Howard Davis and wife Linda, and Thomas Davis, all of Thurmont; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Chester Kerns; a sister, Ada Kerns; and special friend, Lawrence Reed.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2016 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD, with Pastor Donna Sandridge officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Thurmont. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
