Charles Edward Swinderman, age 92 of Westminster died Monday January 24, 2012 at Carroll Hospice Dove House. He was born January 2, 1920 in Baltimore, son of the late William Henry Sharp and Mary Agnes Swinderman. He graduated in 1936 from St. John Catholic School and was a 1940 graduate of Western Maryland College where he majored in chemistry and biology. He began working at Hahn’s of Westminster in 1946. He was a lifelong member of St. John Catholic Church and played the church organ from 1958 until 1996. He was a member of the American Guild of Organists.
Charlie was a Navy veteran of World War II and served from 1942 until 1945. He was a member the American Legion Post 31, V.F.W. Post 467, and was a Tale Twister for the Lions Club. He played bass drum for the William F. Myers & Sons Band and also played piano at Krug Chapel at Carroll Lutheran Village, Westminster Nursing Home and the Westminster Senior Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday January 27, 2012 at St. John Catholic Church, 43 Monroe Street, Westminster with the Rev. Louis A. Bianco as celebrant.
Interment will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery with military honors.
Friends may call Thursday 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster. The Ladies Sodality will say the Rosary Thursday evening at 7:00 PM.
