Charles “Bill” Kenneth Smith, age 91, of Taneytown, Maryland, died peacefully on Friday, January 1, 2010 at Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taneytown.
Born September 9, 1918 in Taneytown, he was the son of the late LeRoy and Helen (Smith) Smith. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Jane (Bock) Smith on October 3, 2008.
Bill was veteran of W.W.II, serving in the U.S. Army. Bill was proud to be part owner of Wantz Chevrolet Corp. in Taneytown during all of his career in the automotive industry. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown, and loved gardening and spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving are daughter, Donna Smith of Ft. Collins, Colorado; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and friends.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by a son, Myron Burnell Smith in 1984, and by siblings Fern Smith and Maxine Corbin.
A Memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM, on Tuesday January 5, 2010 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 W. Baltimore St. Taneytown, followed by a meal in the fellowship hall, with Pastors Josh and Rachel Semovoski, and Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, Jr. co-officiating. Private inurnment will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown.
