Charles Edward Schmitt, Jr, 63, of Westminster, died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at the Carroll Hospital in Westminster. Born January 24, 1952 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Charles E. Schmitt, Sr. and Mary Jane Mentzell Schmitt. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Christine Fortin Schmitt.
Charles was retired from Bell Atlantic Telephone Company, where he worked as an engineer. He enjoyed model railroading, collecting comics, and science fiction and western movies. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #46 AF & AM in Westminster, and was a scoutmaster with Troop #582 in New Windsor.
Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters, Cassandra Reiner and husband, Michael, of Littlestown, PA, Stacey Weeks and husband, Robert, of Littlestown, PA, Charlene Chabino and husband, Curtis, of CA and Stephanie Bennett and husband, Dwayne, of Australia; a son, Charles E. Schmitt III of New Windsor; a sister, Elizabeth Wroten and husband, Joseph, of Arnold; a brother, Lemuel Schmitt and wife, Sharon, of PA; and grandchildren, David, Michael, Steven & Samson Reiner, Sydney and Nathaniel Weeks, and Alyssa Bennett. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Jane Parks, and brother-in-law, Thomas Parks.
A Memorial Service was held at 3 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2015 at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis St., Westminster, MD. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Charles will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends.
