Charles Miller Sackett

Charles Miller Sackett, age 86 of New Oxford, formerly of Westminster, died Monday May 3, 2010 at the Brethren Home Community at Cross Keys Village. He was born November 6, 1923 in Fishersville, VA son of the late Homer Norton and Bertha Susan Miller Sackett. He was the husband of Marilee Elizabeth Miller Sackett, his wife of 61 years. He was a member of the Civilian Public Service, Alternative Service during the war years. He was a 1949 graduate of Bridgewater College and served on the Board of Trustees and was a Life Trustee at the college. He received an award for outstanding service at Bridgewater College. He retired in 1983 as a salesman from Continental Grain (Wayne Feeds).
He was a charter member of the Westminster Church of the Brethren and served on many committees at the church. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Westminster. He enjoyed business economics, and investments.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Diane S. and Rodney S. Fike of Frederick, MD and Nancy S. and Brian Bowersox of Westminster; brother, Willard C. “Bill” Sackett of New Oxford, PA; grandchildren, Wendy C. Fike, Dr. Heidi E. Fike and fiancée Eric Calladine, Barbara A. Chavez and husband Anthony, Stephen A. Fike and fiancée Cindy Kaschak, Andrew P. Bowersox, Scott S. Bowersox and Jennifer L. Bowersox; great-grandson, Trevor R. Chavez, also many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Carole Jean Sackett and sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Sackett.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM on Saturday May 15, 2010, at the Westminster Church of the Brethren, 1 Park Place, Westminster with Pastor Merv Wunderlich and Pastor Twyla Rowe officiating.
Interment will be private in Meadow Branch Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday May 6th 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster.
