Charles B. Poole, age 76, of Emmitsburg, formerly of Taneytown, died peacefully Sunday, May 13, 2012 at St. Catherine Nursing Center in Emmitsburg. Born March 1, 1936 in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Norris & Hazel Stultz Poole. He was the husband of the late Isabelle Haller Poole, his wife of 44 years.
Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Taneytown and Hesson Snyder American Legion Post 120. He was a supervisor for Random House in Westminster for several years. He enjoyed playing pool and cards, traveling, collecting pipes and spending time with family & friends. He was an avid Orioles fan.
Surviving are sons, Rupert Haller of Berlin, Germany and John E. Poole, Sr. & wife, Jane, of New Oxford, PA; daughter, Debi Buffington of Waynesboro, PA; sister, Grace Miller of Baltimore; grandchildren, John E Poole, Jr. and wife, Luisa, of Dover, PA, Ronald E. Buffington, Jr. & wife, Jamie, of Fairfield, PA, James B. Poole of York, PA, Joseph A. Poole of York, PA, and Andrew J. Buffington of Waynesboro, PA; step-grandchildren, Owen Laughman and wife, Tanya, of Spring Grove, PA, Ronda Hunt of McSherrystown, PA, Ronald Laughman & wife, Christie, of New Oxford, PA, and Amy Fierro & husband, Humberto, of East Berlin, PA; great-grandchildren, Hunter Buffington and Madison, Harmony, Riley & Anna Poole; 11 additional great-grandchildren, and 5 great great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Bill & Albert Poole, and sisters, Dorothy DePinto and Ruth Jenkins.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 18 at Grace United Church of Christ, 49 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown, MD with the Rev Steven Ostendorf-Snell officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service and for one hour following the service.
