Charles Vincent “Shorty” Hartdagen, 83, of Emmitsburg, MD died peacefully on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, PA.  Born July 19, 1932 in Emmitsburg, MD, he was the son of the late Vincent and Evelyn (Orndorff) Hartdagen.  He was the husband of Ruth (Weddle) Hartdagen, to whom he was married for 58 years.

Shorty was a heavy equipment operator and 60-year member of the Operating Engineers Union.  He was a life-long member of both St. Joseph Catholic Church in Emmitsburg and Emmitsburg’s Vigilant Hose Company.  He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War.  He was a member of American Legion Post 121 in Emmitsburg and Amvets Post 7 in Thurmont.  Shorty was an avid Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens fan.

Surviving in addition to his devoted wife are daughter, Kathy Delauter and husband Keith of Thurmont; sons, Michael Hartdagen and wife Carole, and David Hartdagen, all of Fairfield, PA; grandchildren, Adam and Renee Delauter and Brad Hartdagen; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a sister, Lois Hartdagen.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, January 18, 2016 at New St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with the Rev. Charles F. Krieg, C.M. officiating.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Emmitsburg.
