Charles “Chuck” Copenhaver, 62, of Cocoa, Florida passed peacefully in his sleep at his home on August 18, 2024. Born on December 13, 1961, in Gettysburg, PA, he was the son of Robert Charles Copenhaver and Patty Rexrode Copenhaver of Emmitsburg, MD.
Chuck graduated from Catoctin High School in Thurmont, MD. He was a volunteer EMT and IV technician with the Emmitsburg Volunteer Fire Company. Chuck held many jobs in his lifetime. He worked as an electrician with his Pop (dad) for many years and he helped run the family farm. He was employed at Zurgable Brothers in Emmitsburg, MD and Fairfield Graphics in Fairfield, PA. He then became a trainer for ATMS where he was able to share his knowledge and understanding of industrial controls with others. Chuck spent the last 25 years working for Bystronic where he was given the opportunity to travel all over the world as a field engineer. He made a positive impression and impact on everyone he met. It was no surprise when he was promoted to service manager. Chuck was known for being extremely devoted to his job and fellow coworkers. He was always just a phone call away for those who needed his help. He moved to Cocoa, Florida in 2015 where he lived with his girlfriend Renee May until his passing.
Chuck was passionate about many things, but eating was at the top of his list. There was nothing he loved more than an oversized bone-in ribeye and ice cream for dessert. Though food was his passion his family was his heart. He loved spending time with them telling silly jokes, sharing his endless knowledge of useless facts and trying to convince his nieces and nephews that they had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot. His greatest joy in life was when his son blessed him with two granddaughters. They filled his heart with joy and never failed to put a smile on his face.
Chuck is survived by his loving family including his son Robert Copenhaver; daughter-in-law, Amanda Copenhaver and their daughters, Amelia and Olivia; and stepson Charles “Buck” Murdorf; father, Bob Copenhaver and stepmother Darlene Copenhaver; sisters, Tina Copenhaver and Diane Holland; brother-in-law Chris Holland; brother, Timothy Copenhaver and sister-in-law, Sandy Copenhaver; nieces and nephews Nikki, Sarah, Kellen, Brian, Ethan, Logan, girlfriend Renee May and her son Wade Boggs; and aunts, Mollie Wilhide, Lisa Stanley, Barbara Frock, Nancy Smith and many other beloved family members.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Patty Copenhaver; three younger siblings; grandparents, Charles and Ruth Copenhaver, Adelaide McIntire, and Lester Rexrode; uncles, Dave Copenhaver and Kenny Copenhaver; and aunts, Betty Burgess and Debra Osborne.
The family will be accepting visitors on Thursday, August 29th between 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. The funeral will be on Friday, August 30th at 11am. All services will be held at the Myers-Durabrow Funeral Home at 210 West Main Street Emmitsburg, MD 21727.
