Charles Robert Cook, age 92, of Keymar, Maryland, died on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at the St. Joseph’s Ministries/St. Catherine’s Nursing Center in Emmitsburg, MD; following a long courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
Born July 21, 1919 in Monkton, Maryland, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Dorothy M. (Rider) Cook. Twice married he was predeceased by 1st wife, Hilda Cook of Keymar who died in 1982 and by his 2nd wife Marian Cook of Havre de Grace who died in 2007.
Charles was a dairy farmer in Sweet Air and Keymar, MD. He also was a driver for the ARC of Harford County until 2009, at which time he retired and moved home with his daughter and son-in-law on the family farm. He was a member of Mt. Zion (Haugh’s) Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ladiesburg, MD. He is the last surviving charter member of the Terra Rubra Lions Club, and enjoyed the outdoors, working in the garden, telling old stories, going to crab and oyster suppers, going out to eat, and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are daughter, Charlene Bond and husband Larry of Keymar, with whom he resided; grandchildren, Lauren Bond and fiancé Matt Repp and Jason Bond and girlfriend Katie Benjamin; step-daughters, Marian Staub and Debbie Eibl of PA; step-son, Ed Bryan of N.C.; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by brothers, Clifton G. and Wilbur V. Cook and by a sister, Loraine Cook Claborn.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown with his pastor the Rev. Dr. Michelle H. Carlson officiating. Interment will follow in the Haugh’s Church Cemetery in Ladiesburg.
