Charles Donald Conrad

Charles Donald Conrad, 98, of Emmitsburg, MD, died peacefully Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at St. Joseph Ministries in Emmitsburg, MD.  Born September 14, 1916 in Chest Springs, PA he was the son of the late Charles E. Conrad and Nellie Catherine (Wharton) Conrad.  He was the husband of the late Anne (Drabish) Conrad who died on August 1, 2012.
Charles was a United States Veteran who served as a 1st lieutenant with the 3142nd Ordinance Division of the U.S. Army during World War II.  He fought alongside his comrades at arms in the Pacific Theatre during the Battle of New Guinea.  After being honorably discharged Charles continued to serve his country as an electrician for the U.S. government, and was a member of the I.B.E.W for over 65 years. He was a life member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Blue Ridge Summit, PA. Charles loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and, gardening.  He also enjoyed woodworking, watching football and baseball games, especially the Baltimore Orioles.  Charles also raised and trained beagles for shows and field trials.
Surviving, are his daughters Patricia “Pat” Sutton and husband Randy of Emmitsburg, MD, and Shirley Ford and husband Dale of Emmitsburg, MD; grandchildren Curtis Ford and wife Kristie, of Thurmont, MD, and Eric Ford and fiancé, JoAnn, of Greencastle, PA.; great-grandchildren, Devon and Luke Ford and several nieces and nephews.  Charles was pre-deceased by his brother Leonard Conrad, and his five sisters, Mabel Little, Olive “Polly” Gauss, Alice Brimmer, Virginia Reichard, and Jeanette York.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM  on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at St. Rita Roman Catholic Church, 13219 Monterey Ln., Blue Ridge Summit, PA  17214 with Rev. Fr. Robert Malagesi, M.S.S.C.C. as celebrant.  Inurnment will be private.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 AM until the time of the Memorial Mass at the church.
