Charles Elmer Conover, age 86, of Taneytown, Maryland, died on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.
Born October 18, 1926 in Frederick, Maryland, he was the son of the late Mervin McKinley and Elsie M. (Baumgardner) Conover. He was predeceased by his wife, Geneda Elizabeth (Fogle) Conover in 1993.
Charles was a graduate of Taneytown High School, and served as a veteran of the U.S. Army as an MP in Italy following W.W.II; and was a member of the U.S. Army Band. He was a lifelong farmer in the Taneytown area. He enjoyed playing coronet music in bands and parades and served as a bugler for military funerals. He was a former member of Keysville Lutheran Church serving as Sunday school teacher and council member, current member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Taneytown and the American Legion Hesson Snider Post 120 Taneytown.
Surviving are daughter, Deborah A. Crawford and husband Donald of Rocky Ridge; grandsons, Keith Andrew and Samuel Alfred Crawford; granddaughters, Evie June Wood and husband Jonathan and Katherine Elizabeth Crawford and husband Barry Bartlett; great-grandchildren, Andrew, Margaret, and Joan Wood, and James Bartlett.
He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Shirley Ann Conover.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown. Services and interment in Keysville Union Cemetery will be private.
