Charles Wilson Becker, 69, of Taneytown, died Friday, October 9, 2009 at Carroll Hospital Center. He was the son of the late Maurice Wilson Becker and Thelma Eleanora (Sell) Becker. He was the husband of Bonita “Bonnie” (Bair) Becker, his wife of 48 years.
He was born October 15, 1939 in Taneytown, Maryland. A 1957 graduate of Taneytown High School, he was the owner/operator of Becker’s Auto Body Shop and Service Center in Westminster for 30 years.
He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving several terms on the church council. He also served many years on the church property board. He was a past-president of the Taneytown Jaycees and the Taneytown Lions Club, and was a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow. He served as docent of the Taneytown History Museum and was an honorary member of the Pleasant Valley Fire Company. He enjoyed restoring antique and classic cars, golf, traveling, spending winters at his home in Florida and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son and daughter-in-law Michael and Angela Becker of Davidson, NC; grandchildren, Sarah Christine, Steven Michael and Scott Christopher Becker, also of Davidson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Julia and Karl Wantz of Taneytown, Patsy and Kenneth Swartzbaugh of Taneytown, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Christopher Scott Becker.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 W. Baltimore St, Taneytown, Maryland with Pastors Josh and Rachel Semovoski officiating. Interment will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Church cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday October 12 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St, Taneytown, Maryland and from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. The Taneytown Lions Club will conduct a memorial service at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
