Charles D. Atkins, Sr., age 83, of Taneytown, Maryland, died peacefully on Friday, April 30, 2010 at his home.
Born August 10, 1926 in Baltimore, Maryland he was the son of the late Florence (Germac) Atkins. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, June E. (Lepinaitis) Atkins.
Charles was a veteran of W.W.II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a school bus contractor in Anne Arundel County, MD for many years, and enjoyed attending the Taneytown Senior Center.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Chuck Atkins and wife Lynne of Winter Haven, Fl., William Atkins of Taneytown, Md., Cindy Beam and husband Gregory of Taneytown, Md., and Alan Atkins of Arbutus, Md.; grandchildren, Danielle, Ryan, Alysia, and Sarah Atkins, Greg, Eric, Matthew, and Christopher Beam, Christina Wiles; great-grandchildren, Gaven Atkins, and Hailey Wiles; brothers, Elmer and Walter Atkins; sisters, Florence Heffington, Margaret Arnold, and Evelyn Clough; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by grandchildren, Andrew, Kevin, and Baby Beam; and by siblings, Dorothy Saunders, Doris Myers, Elnora Smith, Ethel Miller, Catherine Gaither, Henry, Donald, and Carl Atkins.
A private graveside service with military honors will be held on Wednesday at Garrison Forest Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Owings Mills, with Monsignor Martin E. Feild officiating.
There will be no pubic visitation.
