Carroll Kloman Tinkler, 87, of Finksburg, Maryland, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, May 28, 2017 at the Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster.
Born January 14, 1930 in Baltimore County, MD, he was the son of the late Emory and Carrie (Simms) Tinkler. Carroll was raised by his aunt and uncle, the late Cora and Arthur Myers. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Doris Marie (Dell) Tinkler.
Carroll was a graduate of Westminster High School, Class of 1947, and studied for a year at Western Maryland College. He was Service Manager at Montgomery Ward for 45 years, retiring in 1995. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. Carroll was a life-long member of the Carrollton Church of God in Finksburg, where he served as elder, worship leader, Sunday School superintendent and teacher, and member of the church council and the choir. He was a member of The Gideons International, serving on the cabinets of both the Carroll County Camp and the Delmardic States, and helping distribute Bibles throughout the region. In 2000, he went on a Bible distribution mission to the Philippines. Carroll was also active in the Good News Jail and Prison Ministry, leading Bible studies and worship at the Carroll County Detention Center. He was also active in nursing home ministry and the Westminster Rescue Mission. He loved singing, telling stories, and attending worship services and church activities.
Surviving in addition to his beloved wife Doris, are son, Dennis Tinkler and wife Vicky of Finksburg; sister, Alice Herbst of Westminster; grandchildren, Richard Tinkler of New York City, Jennifer Tinkler and husband Alex Campos of Dallas, TX, John Benjamin Tinkler and wife Tiffany of McKinney, TX, Sarah Tinkler and husband Tim O’Reilly of NY, and Bethany Porter and husband Samuel of Frostburg, MD; great-grandchildren, Eric, Benjamin, Teddy, and Clara; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, David, John Emory, Ralph, Gordon, and Harry Tinkler; and sisters, Elizabeth Schlerf, Dorothy Armacost, Helen Wojick, and Frances Virginia Tinkler.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Carrollton Church of God, 1901 Carrollton Rd., Finksburg, with Pastors Dave Meador and Jim Moss officiating. Burial will follow in the Carrollton Church of God Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis St., Westminster, and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
