Carl Cleveland Twigg, Jr., age 94, of Westminster, Maryland, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at his residence at Carroll Lutheran Village. Born on September 13, 1920 in Westminster, Maryland, he was the son of the late Carl C. Twigg, Sr. and Anna Gehr Twigg. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, June Kay Twigg.
Carl was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and served during WWII from 1942 to 1945 as a Sonarman, 2nd Class on the USS Annapolis. Upon his return from the War he worked as a sales executive for Gettier-Montanye, Inc. in Glyndon, Maryland. The majority of his career was spent as Vice-President with Thomas, Bennett & Hunter Concrete Company in Westminster, retiring in 1981. In his younger years he spent time as a Boy Scout. Memberships included the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, Westminster Kiwanis, PTA (President), and Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Finksburg. He was also an active member with the Carroll County Historical Society and donated many interesting artifacts about Westminster and Carroll County. He loved to play chess and enjoyed collecting antiques, especially antique postcards depicting old scenes.
Surviving in addition to his wife are sons, Mark E. Twigg and wife Harriet of Falls Church, Va., and Charles A. Twigg and wife Jeri of Westminster; sister, Mary Ada Welliver of Sykesville; grandchildren, Jeffrey Twigg, Andrew Twigg and wife Marianne, Elaine Twigg Waterman and husband Joey, Dennis Twigg and wife Diana, and Julie Twigg Mecchi and husband Andrew; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings, Virginia Twigg, Dorothy Grumbine, and Denton Twigg.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Krug Chapel at Carroll Lutheran Village, 300 St. Luke Circle, Westminster with Rev. Dr. W. Louis Piel and Rev. Jimmie L. Schwartz co-officiating. Luncheon and reception with the family will follow the service in the chapel. Private burial will follow in the Benjamin’s Kriders UCC Cemetery in Westminster.
