Carl Dean Brown

December 19, 1934 — June 12, 2021

Carl Dean Brown, born December 19, 1934, son of the late Mary Shaeffer Brown and George Brown, Sr., a lifelong resident of the Taneytown area, passed away on June 12, 2021. He was 86 years old.

Dean graduated from Taneytown High School in 1953. He was married to the late Nadine Shirley Schwartz (1936-1984) on April 9, 1955; and to the late Wilma Jeanne Wood who passed away in 2019.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Brownie was also a member of the Taneytown Jaycees, serving as a director and president in 1965 and receiving the Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding community service through loyal, faithful, and unselfish efforts, resulting in lasting contributions to the community and nation. During his term as president, a community swimming pool and Little League baseball diamond were completed and dedicated to the youth of Taneytown.  He served on both a local and national level, attending conferences and conventions in the field of community development. His wife, Nadine, also served as president of the Taneytown Jaycettes. He was a past president of the Taneytown Chamber of Commerce, as well as a member of the Masonic Lodge.

While in school, Dean worked hard on the family farm and at Wagner Service Station where he began a lifelong interest in the automotive industry. In 1955, he began a long and distinguished career with Crouse Ford Sales, Inc. as a body shop mechanic, foreman, and Service Manager. He earned a Certified Service Advisor status through Ford Motor Company. During his tenure at Crouse Ford, he was awarded multiple Medallion Manager for Service Management Awards, Outstanding Service Achievement in Ford Parts and Service Division Best of the Best, and Quality Care Award for Outstanding Achievement in Customer Satisfaction.

Dean completed a real estate licensing program and was a member of the Carroll County and Frederick County Boards of Realtors and worked in the field for a number of years.

In 1980, a hobby of wood carving became a business known as Chesapeake Carving. His unique works of art were meticulously crafted, pieces of which can be found in the Taneytown Museum.

Dean is survived by three children, Gregory Dean Brown (Karol), Pamela Jane Brown (Larry), and Lisa Renee Arnesen (Rolf); six grandchildren, Erin Tohir, Joshua Dean Brown, Jaime Wright, Cody Reese, Gunnar Arnesen, Kirsi Arnesen; six great grandchildren, Layla, Dax, Carlisle, Adeline, Naya Dean, and Everett Dean.  Surviving in addition, are sister, Joan Pickett, nieces, nephews, stepchildren and their families. He is predeceased by sister Bonnie Hawk, brother George Brown, Jr., and many longtime friends.

A public service will be held on Saturday, July 10, at 11:00 am, followed by private burial at Trinity Lutheran Church, 38 West Baltimore Street, Taneytown, MD 21787. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Trinity Lutheran Church.
