Calvin Leroy Amoss

Calvin Leroy Amoss, age 78, of Taneytown, Maryland, died on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born December 19, 1933 in Sykesville, MD, he was the son of the late William Irving and Elizabeth B. (Hurt) Amoss. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Carolyn Jane (Musgrove) Amoss.
Calvin was a member of Taneytown High School Class of 1953, and began working as a huckster in the Washington, D.C. area, and later had a milk truck route. Calvin was a 50 year auctioneer and had the honorary title of “Colonel”. He was a member of Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church in Emmitsburg; Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #2226 in Littlestown; Harney V.F.W.; Monocacy Lodge #203, AF&AM; Maryland Farm Bureau; and the Carroll York Rite. He was a past member and past president of the Taneytown Lions Club. He was a lifelong farmer and held several apartment rentals in the area.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children, Randall Amoss and wife Kathleen of Taneytown, John Amoss of Taneytown, Dwayne Amoss and wife Maria of Union Bridge, Dwight Amoss and wife Tessa of Littlestown, Scott Amoss of Littlestown, and Robin LaGrave and friend Scott Baugher of Taneytown; brother and sister-in-law, George and Theo Amoss of Westminster. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Melvin Amoss and by daughter-in-law, Kathy Trump-Amoss.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church in Emmitsburg with the Rev. Tim Kromer officiating. Interment will follow in the Keysville Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m., on Wednesday at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown.
