Bonnie (Lego) Zito

June 15, 1943 — December 7, 2022

Suffolk, VA

Bonnie Sue Lego-Zito, age 79 of Suffolk, Virginia, previously of Westminster, Maryland, passed peacefully on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. Bonnie was born in Baltimore, Maryland on June 15, 1943, the 4th child of the late Arthur and Margaret Lego.

She was predeceased by both her Mother and Father, as well as brother Arthur Nelson Lego and daughter in law, Shari Boyd. Bonnie was the loving mother of sons Wayne Boyd of Palmetto, Florida, Scott Wade of Westminster, MD, and Matthew Zito (Jode) of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, as well as daughters Mariea Morales (Rafael) of Carrollton, Va. and Melissa Marsiglia (R. Wyatt) of Suffolk, Va. She was the Grandmother of Ryan, Jake, Ashley, Aliea, Graison, Trenton, and Skyler.

Our mother spent her whole life wanting to become a homemaker and mother. Comically, she loved to clean, but hated to cook! She was employed a short while with Maryland Bolt and Nut doing factory processing work but stopped shortly before marriage to attend to her duties as a wife and mother. She enjoyed it so much, she helped in raising other people's children, opening her own home daycare business in 1991 and ran it for several years before retiring. She also taught many children in Awana at Church of the Open Door, Westminster, where she was a member in the 1980's. She would tell you that her greatest accomplishments in life were her children. She took great pride in sharing with others about our successes. Having a 9th grade education, she stressed to my sister and I from a young age, over and over, about the importance of furthering our own education, being strong, independent women, and "not ending up like she did". We did just that. All of us did, and she was there to proudly support us every step of the way.

Our mother loved to reminisce about "the 50's", her favorite era, her boyfriend at the time "Bob", and the times she went to the teen center in Balt. Co, Maryland (Oakleigh Teen Center) - these were some of her best memories. She loved telling stories of growing up with her 5 other brothers and sisters, while stressing the importance of a close-knit family. She also loved music (especially 50's music) and at any given time, music could be heard around our home playing on the radio. She enjoyed her iPad and found comfort in keeping in contact with others on Social Media (she loved Facebook!). She loved and collected dolls, and at one time, owned 100's before giving them away or donating them. She also enjoyed flea markets, yard sales, and thrift stores, as well as watching the Animal Planet channel. As a true Baltimore, Maryland native, she will always be remembered for calling everyone "hun".

She will also be remembered as the Mother everyone went to in their times of need not only to her own children, but to other people's children as well. She loved the Lord, and no matter what was thrown her way, be it health related or life in general, she always found security and comfort in her Christian faith. She always expressed to others to "Give it to the Lord" when they'd confide in her or seek her advice… and she did exactly this, till the very end.
