Bill Glass

September 16, 1936 — February 12, 2015

Billy Lee Glass, 78, of Emmitsburg, Maryland died peacefully Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Gettysburg Hospital in Gettysburg, PA.  Born September 16, 1936 in Emmitsburg, he was the son of the late George Kermit and Della Gladhill Glass.  He was the husband of Mary Plunkert Glass, to whom he was married for nearly 55 years.

Bill was born and raised on a dairy farm and became very astute at repairing machinery and equipment.  He was a master mechanic, working at the Freeman Shoe Company in Emmitsburg for 35 years, then at Taney Corporation in Taneytown for the ensuing 25 years.  He enjoyed deep sea fishing, hunting for arrow heads and hickory nuts, checking out yard sales, and adding pieces to his glassware collection.  His family was most important in his life.

Surviving in addition to his wife are son, Steven Glass and wife Jackie of Bolivia, NC; joys of his life, granddaughter, Brittany Weatherly and husband Josh of Waynesboro, PA; grandson, Matthew Glass and fiancée Olivia Bizzarri of Lexington Park, MD; step-grandson, Adrien McKeithan; very special little great-granddaughters, Adelynn and Sadie Weatherly; siblings, Betty Ann Mumma, Jim Glass and wife Doris, Velma “Sis” Stambaugh, Patty McGlaughlin and husband Dennis, Nancy Baker, Gary Glass and wife Wanda, Larry Glass and wife Susan, Michael Glass and wife Barbara; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leroy Coshun, Calvin and Evelyn Pearl, Danny and Anna Holsinger, Henry Plunkert and friend Rhonda Bungard, and Brad and Ellen Dixon; as well as many very special nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 16 at Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church, 16252 Tom’s Creek Church Rd, Emmitsburg, MD with his pastor, the Rev. Heath Wilson officiating.  Interment will follow at Keysville Union Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St, Emmitsburg, MD.
