Betty Mary Stofcik, age 87, died peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Memorial Hospital in Mechanicsville, VA. Born March 30, 1936, in Emmitsburg, MD, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Peter and Ethel Grace Harbaugh, Cool.
Betty and her immediate family were members of St. Timothy’s, Tappahannock, and St. Francis’ Catholic Churches in VA. She lived with her son Michael in Lancaster, VA, and enjoyed gardening, mushroom hunting, and crabbing.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Deborah Albright and her husband William of Hershey, PA; sons, Michael Lawrence and wife Karen of Lancaster, VA and Steven Lawrence of Thurmont, MD; grandchildren, Justin, Anastasia, Alexander, Michael, Grace, Cynthia, Craig, and Mangy; great-grandchildren, Owen, Jarrett, Elias, Payton, Taylor, Asher, Aurora and AJ; sisters, Doris Dinterman and Barbara Dinterman,; and brother Leroy Cool.
Deceased Siblings: Sisters; Anna Kwarta and Linda Clabaugh and Brothers; Richard Cool and Kenneth Cool.
She is predeceased by her first husband, Allen (Speedy) Woodrow Lawrence, in 2018, and by her second husband, John Joseph “Scotty” Stofcik, in 2012.
A time of visitation will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m., (Memorial Service at 6 p.m.) at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 10 a.m., at St. Joesph’s Catholic Church, 47 DePaul St., Emmitsburg. Interment will follow at Emmitsburg Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home.
