Betty Ann (Smith) Powell

November 2, 1955 — March 2, 2018

Betty Ann Powell, 62, of Westminster, MD, died on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Carroll Hospital Center.

Born on November 2, 1955 in Erie, PA, she was the daughter of the late Earl E. and Vivian I. (Huitt) Smith.  She was the loving and devoted wife of 35 years to Frank R. Powell, Jr.

Betty was very active and served as an officer of the American Legion Unit 31 Ladies Auxiliary in Westminster.  She was always giving of herself to others, and was an active fundraiser for local charitable organizations, especially Camp T.R. of Carroll Hospice and the Special Olympics.  Her number one joy in life were her grandchildren.

Surviving in addition to her husband are daughter, Rebecca Ann Powell of Westminster; grandchildren, Timothy Dennington, Brittney Dennington, and Jillian Powell; sister, Donna Jean Anderson of FL; brothers, Charles Smith and Michael Smith both of PA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by son, Timothy Robert Dennington; infant daughter, Tammy Lynn Dennington; and sister, Kathryn Bithell.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis Street, Westminster.  A private burial will take place at a later date in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery in Erie, PA.
