Betty L. Gaffney, age 86, of Westminster, MD, formerly of Randallstown, died on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at home surrounded by her family.
Born August 16, 1923 in Cumberland, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Pearl (Wilkens) Geis. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 61 years, John Thomas “Tom” Gaffney, Jr. in 2009.
Betty showed an endless love and devotion to her family and friends. She was a 1941 graduate of Beall H.S. and 1944 graduate of Frostburg State Teachers College. She taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grades in the Baltimore County School System for many years. She was a member of St. John’s (Leisters) Lutheran Church in Westminster. Betty was an avid reader, and enjoyed arts & crafts, collecting miniature furniture (Thumbelina club), quilting and sewing.
Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Amy Sue and Albert Womaski of Westminster, son David Michael Gaffney of Hanover, PA; grandchildren Justin J. Womaski, Melissa Holland, Chelsea Ganjon, April and Michael Gaffney; and 4 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a step-mother, Elizabeth (Hendley) Geis, and by a brother, Charles Edward Geis, Jr.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, with the Rev. David S. Schafer officiating. Interment will follow in St. John’s (Leisters) Lutheran Cemetery in Westminster. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
