Betty Marie Eyler, 87, of Rocky Ridge, MD, died peacefully on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at her home with her family at her side. Born September 8, 1930 at Motters Station near Rocky Ridge, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Opal (Long) Stambaugh. She was the beloved wife of Charles F. Eyler, Jr., to whom she was married for 68 years.
Betty worked as a Nursing Assistant at Citizens Nursing Home in Frederick for 25 years. She was a member of Elias Evangelical Lutheran Church in Emmitsburg. She enjoyed flower gardening, her canaries, bird watching, and camping and fishing in Florida and Crisfield with her friends. Betty’s children and grandchildren were her life. She enjoyed having everyone home for family gatherings and for holidays.
Surviving, in addition to her devoted husband Charles, are daughters, Gail Shaker of Burke, VA, Charlene Little and husband Dave of Emmitsburg, Diane Thomas and husband Fred of Salisbury and Kimberly Eyler of Rocky Ridge; son, Kevin Eyler of Rocky Ridge; brothers, Ken Stambaugh and wife Janet of Littlestown, PA and Dick Stambaugh and wife Joyce of Thurmont; sister-in-law, Velma Stambaugh of Emmitsburg; 8 grandchildren, Stephanie Zagade, Adam and Andrew Shaker, Deana Mortorff, David Little, Natasha Groth, Kristen Seabrease and Evan Thomas; 14 great-grandchildren, Tarek, Idris, Shereen, Aaliyah, Zack and Naureen Zagade, Harrison Mortorff, Dylan and Kailey Williams, Lily and Summer Groth, Michael and Christopher Seabrease and Emma Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Timothy Eyler; siblings, Frances Reynolds, Charles “Sonny” Stambaugh and Fred Stambaugh; daughter-in-law, Debbie Hoffman; and son-in-law, Sherif Shaker.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 20, 2018 at Elias Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 W. North Ave., Emmitsburg, MD with the Rev. Jon R. Greenstone officiating. Burial will follow in Elias Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 19th at MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 210 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, MD.
