Betty Jane Barber, age 87, of Taneytown, Maryland, died peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at the Carroll Hospice Dove House in Westminster.
Born May 25, 1927 in Marston, Maryland, Betty was the daughter of the late Harry O. and Martha F. (Snyder) Farver. She was predeceased by her former husband Willard “Poodles” G. Barber in 1977.
Betty was a member of St. Luke’s (Winters) Lutheran Church in New Windsor. She worked for many years at the Brethren Service Center, National Geographic, and most recently Kennies Market in Taneytown. She loved spending time with family and friends and her special cat “Tommy”.
Surviving are her son, Rick Barber and wife Brenda of New Windsor; grandsons, Justin Barber and wife Hilary of Boonsboro, Matthew Barber and wife Liz of New Windsor, and Kyle Barber and wife Ashley of Silver Run; great-grandchildren, Eli, Patrick, Bridgette, Levi, and Owen Barber; sisters-in-law, Pat Farver of New Windsor, Gloria Yingling of Westminster, and Barbara Barber of Greensboro, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sets of twins, Irene M., William L., Mable I. and Lee W. Farver; brothers, Harry J. “Bud” and Fred F. Farver.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St, Taneytown, MD, with the Rev. Anne C. Durboraw officiating. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery near New Windsor. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
