Bette Rose Thompson, 93, of Westminster, Maryland formerly of Hagerstown, Maryland died on Sunday, March 29, 2020 at her home at Brightview Westminster Ridge.
She was born on February 24, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York and was the daughter of the late Albert and Matty (Nadelstein) Kaplan. She was the wife of 69 years to the late Benjamin C. Thompson, who predeceased her in 2016.
Bette attended the University of Michigan, and then graduated from Ohio University in 1948. She earned a M.Ed. from Hood College while teaching special education at Marshall Street School, Hagerstown, Maryland, and retired after many years of teaching.
Surviving are daughters, Dr. Ann Thompson of Pittsburgh, PA, Laurie Wang and husband Dr. Charlie of Wilmington, DE, Lynn Thompson of Boston, MA, Beth Huber and husband Chuck of Westminster, and Olivia Jones and husband Barry of Maugansville; grandchildren, Seth Frader-Thompson, Ian, Evan and Lindsay Wang, Ari, Anna, Alex and Adam Blumberg, Benjamin and Kelsey Huber, and Douglas and Kirkland Jones; great-grandson, Sam Frader-Thompson; sisters, Joan Siegel of Scottsdale, AZ and Judy Davison of Dana Point, CA.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Westminster.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bette’s name to either the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, 401 Museum Dr., Hagerstown, MD, 21740 (wcmfa.org) or to the Washington County Public Library, 100 South Potomac St., Hagerstown, MD, 21740 (washcolibrary.org).
