Benjamin F. Black, Jr.

Benjamin Franklin Black, Jr., 82, resident of Gettysburg, PA, died peacefully on Friday, November 11, 2016 at his home.  Born June 25, 1934 in Union Bridge, MD, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin Black, Sr. and Alice Virginia (Hossler) Black.  He was married to Phyllis Joan (Staub) Black, his wife of 59 years.

Ben was born and raised in Union Bridge, Maryland on the family farm.  He raised six children.  He enjoyed gardening, following the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, but his greatest joy was spending time with and entertaining his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Ben was employed for many years at the Cambridge Rubber Company in Taneytown and retired from the Rotorex Corporation in Walkersville.  Following retirement he worked for McDonalds in Gettysburg, PA.  He was a member of Linwood Church of the Brethren, and the local electrical workers Union.

Surviving in addition to his wife are daughter-in-law, Shari Black of Springfield, MO; children, Paul Black and wife Loriane of Westminster, MD, Patricia Kulp and husband Chester of Gettysburg, PA, David Black and partner Jon Jones of FL, and Jane Windell and husband Wayne of Gettysburg, PA; sisters, Betty Jane Grossnickle and Nancy Lescalleet of Taneytown, MD; brothers, Harry Black of Westminster, MD, and Elmer Black and wife Mary of Taneytown, MD; grandchildren, Benjamin IV, Ryan, Sara, Randee and Matthew Black, Brittni and Daric Craigie, Brennden and Blake Windell; great-grandchildren, Jason, Chase, Olivia, Tegan, Madelyn, Mia, Dominic, Brady, Kori “Peaches”, Harper, Ezekiel and Kensington; and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by daughter, Donna Maria Black; son, Benjamin Franklin Black III; sisters, Anna Mae Burdette, Helen Utz, Dorothy Boone and brother, John Black, Sr.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 at the Union Bridge Church of the Brethren, 124 S. Main St., Union Bridge, MD with his grandson, Pastor Ryan Black officiating.  A luncheon and reception will immediately follow the services in the church fellowship hall.  Interment will follow in Meadow Branch Cemetery in Westminster.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME in Taneytown, MD.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gettysburg Soup Kitchen, 30 West High St., Gettysburg, PA 17325.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.myersdurborawfh.com.
