Barbara Ann Lutz, age 79 of Taneytown, Maryland died Friday February 5, 2021 of natural causes in Westminster at the Carroll Hospice Dove House.
Born on November 8, 1941 at her home in Catonsville, she was the daughter of the late Leon Sr. and Alice (Harper) Wilhide and loving wife of Wm. Wayne Lutz for 59 years.
Barbara was the last original member of the founding family of Wilhide’s Flowers of Catonsville. She graduated from Catonsville High School in 1959. She received an AA degree from Penn Hall Jr. College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. While there she became engaged to the love of her life (Wayne) and they were married in 1961. Growing up in Catonsville, she was an Honored Queen in Job’s Daughters Organization. Her family were active members of Catonsville United Methodist Church.
She started her career as a medical secretary and worked at different offices around the births of her children. She loved working and interacting with a great number of patients. She retired from the office of Doctors Birchess and Commerford after 35 wonderful years.
Barbara grew up in the flower business, assisting her family with the running of Wilhide’s flower shop. Barbara was very active with Catonsville High School class of ‘59 and continued to plan reunions up until her death. She was co-chairman for their reunion group and loved reuniting with all her school friends. She had a way of making friends anywhere she went. She was highly active for many years at Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Christian Day school, where she was the PTL President. She loved to travel and cruise with Wayne and her friends to many destinations. She lived the last 14 years in the Community of Carroll Vista in Taneytown, where she made life-long friendships.
Along with her parents, Barbara is preceded in death by her brothers Leon Edward Wilhide, Jr and Theodore Harper Wilhide.
She is survived by her beloved husband Wm. Wayne Lutz: Daughter Kathleen Ann Lutz; Wm. David Lutz and his wife Beth McGill Lutz of Greencastle, PA; Grandchildren: Jessica Ann Meehling (nee Uhland) and her husband Joseph S. Meehling of Frederick; Heather Christine Corbin (nee Uhland) and her husband Brent A. Corbin of Smithsburg; Margaret Joanna Uhland; Kaitlyn McGill Spielman (nee Lutz) and her husband Bradley M. Spielman from Greencastle, PA; Emily Michelle Folger (nee Lutz) and her husband Jonathan W. Folger of Laguna Vista, TX; Wm. Daniel Lutz of Columbus, OH and Matthew Wayne Lutz. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private funeral service for family will be held at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Taneytown on Wednesday, February 17th. The funeral service will be live-streamed at 1 p.m. at https://www.facebook.com/MDFHWestminster/. Interment will follow at Loudon Park Cemetery in Catonsville, MD. A Celebration of Barbara’s Life will be scheduled at a later date.
