Barbara Jane Sanders, age 80, of Murfreesboro, Tenn. formerly of Emmitsburg, died Thursday December 17, 2009 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn. following a short illness. She was born June 9, 1929 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts the daughter of the late Harry A. and Mary M. Waters Seaman. She attended the local schools in Pittsfield, Mass., including graduating in 1947 from St. Josephs High School.
She continued her education at Strayer Junior College, Washington, D.C. and Frederick Community College. She retired from her last employer at FHA in Washington D.C. She married her husband Alan Sanders, June 19, 1965 and they resided in Alan’s family home in Emmitsburg, MD. She was a docent at the Seton Shrine Center in Emmitsburg, MD and a volunteer at the Gettysburg Hospital. Following the death of Alan, on October 13, 1994, she later moved to Murfreesboro, Tennessee for the remainder of her retirement years. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Emmitsburg and St. Roses Church of Murfreesboro, TN. She loved to travel, to paint on wood and porcelain, as well as many other hobbies. She loved her dogs KoKo, and her last pet dog Ollie. She was a member of the Auxiliary of the American Legion Post #121 and the V.F.W. Post #6658.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Harry A. Seaman and three sisters, Marion Brady, Dorothy Briggs and Rose M. “Peggy” (Seaman) Avalle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 47 DePaul Street, Emmitsburg with Rev. Vincent J. O’Malley, C.M. as celebrant. Interment will follow at New St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church.
