Barbara Mary Ost (nee Bauer), age 92 of Sarasota, Fl died Tuesday November 2, 2010 at Lorien Nursing & Rehabilitation Center of Taneytown, MD. She was born November 6, 1917 in Baltimore, MD the daughter of the late Benjamin and Marion Clagett Bauer and graduated from Eastern High School in Baltimore in 1935. She had a long career as an executive secretary for the Teamsters Union. On October 16, 1948 she married the love of her life, John Henry Ost, who died May 26, 2009. Barbara and John had more than sixty years of marriage together and were able to travel the world. After retirement they divided their time between homes in Smith Mountain Lake, VA and Florida. In 1988 they became full time Floridians, building a home in Bradenton, FL. They spent their last few years in an apartment in Sarasota, FL.
Barbara particularly enjoyed reading and in her youth had written poetry and short stories. She also had a great interest in politics and was a good cook. Her family will miss her lovely smile and generous spirit. She was always a perfect lady in every way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Ost, her sibilings, Marion Barker, Robert Bauer and Benjamin Bauer and her nieces Donna Maier and Marjorie Klein.
Survivors include her stepson, James Haller of South Berwick, Maine, one sister, Marjorie Meschket of Taneytown, MD, Niece, Janet Tegeler of Taneytown, MD, niece, Barbara DiSimone of Columbia, MD, nephew, Tom Neuberger of Millersville, MD, nephew, Mark Barker of Rochester, NY and many great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her husbands’s nephews, Philip Hageman of Green Cove Springs, FL, and Robert Hageman of Makanda, IL.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore Street, Taneytown, MD 21787.
The family will receive friends 2:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
