Audrey Virginia Hess, 83, of Taneytown, Maryland died unexpectedly Monday, February 2, 2015 at her home. Born February 13, 1931 near Detour, she was the daughter of the late Marlin and Marguerite DeBerry Six. She was the wife of Donald Elmer Hess, Sr., to whom she was married for 65 years.
Audrey worked in the Packing Department at Cambridge Rubber Company in Taneytown for many years. Prior to that, she was employed at Mason-Dixon Dairy in Gettysburg. She was a member of the Harney Fire Company Ladies’ Auxiliary, the Pythian Sisters in Taneytown, and the Taneytown Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed decorating her home for all holidays, watching western movies and old episodes of Gunsmoke and Hee-Haw, coloring, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to her husband, are daughters, Diane Cavanaugh and husband Kevin of Hanover, PA, Sherrie Sanders and husband Jeff of Fairfield, PA, and Robin Caples and husband Jeff of McSherrystown, PA; brother, Larry Six and wife Nancy of Littlestown, PA; daughter-in-law, Lois Hess of Taneytown; grandchildren, Lisa Dettinger and husband Dan of Littlestown, PA, Corey Hess and wife Shelly of Taneytown, Jennifer Baney and husband Jeff of Gettysburg, PA, Brian Cavanaugh and wife Heather of Brooklyn, NY, Megan Remaley and husband the Rev. T.J. Remaley of Taylors, SC, Mackenzie and Maddison Sanders of Fairfield, PA, Melissa Caples and fiance Lt. Greg Miller, Amanda Caples, and Jessica Caples, all of McSherrystown, PA, Karen Dettinger of Taneytown, and Jennifer Keeton and husband Dayman of Stedman, KS; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kelly, Nathan, Wyatt, Tyler, Ryan, and Cody; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by son, Donald Hess, Jr., brothers, George and Marlin “Bootie” Six, and two infant sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 6, 2015 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St, Taneytown, MD, with Pastor Lloyd Fuss and Pastor T.J. Remaley officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
