In 1945 he was graduated from Norwood High School, and at the age of 17 joined the U.S. Navy and was commissioned state side for the last months of W.W.II. While with Bendix, he moved the family to places such as El Paso, Texas; Elizabethtown, Kentucky; Oxnard, California; Boston, Massachusetts; Anchorage, Alaska; and ultimately Baltimore, Maryland. His work at Bendix was highly classified supporting national defense projects during the cold war era, and entailed teaching at places such as MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Fort Bliss, as well as other defense communication deployments, he then shifted into project management and operations requiring a higher level of security clearance where his work focused on satellite communications, submarine detection devices, as well as other communication related work that was classified. In 1971 following the death of his first son, he side stepped his career for self employment in the home building business, he later rejoined Bendix until his retirement. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Maryland at Baltimore in Business Administration, 12 years prior to his retirement. Art enjoyed his computer, model airplanes, scuba diving, sailing, rod and spear fishing, camping, taking extended family trips cross country in the automobile, steam shows, golfing, history, politics, and later on in life – time with his grandchildren.
