Arnold “Arnie” Leitner Hayes, 92, of Finksburg, Maryland, died peacefully on Monday, December 26, 2016 at the home of his daughter.
Born September 22, 1924 in Baltimore, Maryland he was the son of the late Arnold L. Hayes, Sr. and Madolyn Rebecca (Jackson) Hayes. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley Marie (Zimmerman) Hayes in 2012.
Arnie graduated from City College High School, Washington College, and Loyola College with higher degrees in education. His teaching career began in Baltimore City and then moved to Carroll County, later becoming a principal with the Carroll County public school system retiring in 1979. He enjoyed performing in local community theater and September Song productions. He was an avid reader and writer of poetry.
Surviving are children and spouses, Stephen C. Hayes and wife Dolly of Gales Ferry, Conn., Suzanne M. Edelman and husband Mitchell of Finksburg, Kathleen A. White and husband Stephen of Menton, France, Kevin F. Hayes and wife Pamela of Westminster, and Christine R. Crawford and husband Darrell of Finksburg; grandchildren, Daniel White, Aaron Hayes, Heather Tarin, Nancy Hayes, Abigail Dunn, Timothy Hayes, Alex Crawford, and Bryan Crawford; great-grandsons, Connor, Colin, Ethan, and Lonnell.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis Street, Westminster with Funeral Celebrant John C. Morrill officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
