Anna Marie Montgomery, 91, of Hampstead, died peacefully Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Heart Homes Assisted Living in Lutherville. Born October 25, 1922 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late George Albert and Marie Dresback Wunder. She was the wife of the late James Edward Fox who was killed in action January 31, 1945 in Belgium, and the late Thomas Charles Montgomery, who died in 1972.
Anna worked in maintenance for the Baltimore City School Board for several years. She previously worked as a cook at Villa Julie. She was a member of American Legion Post 31, VFW Post 467, and Moose Lodge 138, all in Westminster. She enjoyed dancing and swimming, and collecting baseball cards. She won two Senior Olympic medals in swimming. She enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball in the 1950s and 60s, and was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan.
She is survived by children, Anna Marie Mandelik of Dallas, TX, Mary Elizabeth Yingling of Baltimore, Margaret Jane Vitek and husband Brent of Timonium, Thomas Charles Montgomery, Jr. and wife Sophia of Perry Hall, Robert Michael Montgomery of Baltimore, and James Francis Montgomery of Taneytown; 5 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, James Edward Fox, Jr. who died in 1947 at the age of 4 as the result of a tragic accident; a sister, Reginia Watts; and brothers, Francis, George, and William Wunder.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster, MD with the Rev. Mr. Joseph Cinquino officiating. Interment will follow at New Cathedral Catholic Cemetery in Baltimore. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
