Ann Cauthorn Woodie

On Sunday, December 29th, 2024, Ann Cauthorn Woodie, 72, of Westminster passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at the Carroll Hospital Center. Born on March 10th, 1952, in New York, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Kathleen Cauthorn (nee Kane). Ann was beloved high school sweetheart to her life partner and husband, Larry Eugene Woodie, to whom she was married to for 51 years.

Ann was a 1970 graduate of South Carroll High School in Winfield and after her graduation, she began working for the Carroll County Public School System in the Food Service Department where she spent the next 35 years. For the first 30 years she was working at Freedom Elementary School followed by her last 5 years at Friendship Valley Elementary School. Throughout her time at Freedom Elementary School many people in the Sykesville/Eldersburg area knew and still ask about her and remember her fondly. Over many years while working in food service, Ann won many awards for her cookie recipes at the Maryland School Nutrition Association Conventions in Ocean City, Maryland. A particular favorite was her Ginger Snap recipe. She would bake hundreds of these cookies for friends and families for many years which included many family friends and co-workers of her children. Following her retirement, she continued to work as a substitute for the Carroll County Public Schools, most often at Northwest Middle School in the Taneytown area.

In 1993, life took a turn when Larry was injured and Ann took a second job working for Masci Enterprises, who owned the Roy Rogers in the former Cranberry Mall where she worked for many years and then transferred to the Roy Rogers in Mt. Airy. Following Larry’s passing, she began working part time for H&R Block in Mt. Airy.

In her spare time when she was not working, she enjoyed a great game of BINGO with one of her best friends Connie Few. Ann would commonly be seen playing BINGO most recently at the Westminster Moose Lodge, the Westminster and New Windsor Fire Halls as well as participating in recent events at the Pleasant Valley Reese, and Westminster Fire Halls.

Family was a very important part of her life, and she loved her days spent at Westminster Duck Pond with her granddaughter Kaylee. She was overjoyed with excitement when she was promoted to the title of “Great Grandmother.” She loved and especially looked forward to spending time with her great grandchildren. One her favorite hobbies was traveling to different destinations with her beloved Larry and then in later years with her daughter Candice and many friends. Some of her favorite places to visit were Atlantic City, NJ, Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races in Charles Town, WV, and to Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. She was a lover of music and enjoyed many concerts over her years such as George Strait, Trace Adkins, Kenny Rodgers, Alabama, Blood, Sweat, and Tears, and the Beach Boys, just to name a few.

Ann is survived and is the loving mother of Eugene Woodie and his wife Susan, Tony Woodie and his companion Danette Comer, Candice Schenk and her husband Eric, and James Woodie and his wife Kathy Woodie; cherished grandmother of Stanley Dobson, Sean Woodie and his wife Anna, Makayla Comer, Ryan Schenk, Allison Weishaar and her husband Josh, Jonathan Woodie and his companion Alyssa Whitmer, Kaylee Woodie, Chris Motley, and Sierra Flanery; and devoted great-grandmother of Philomena, Fiona, Dallas, Weston, and Hudson, her absolute pride and joy.

Ann is the oldest child in her extended family and dear sister of Edward Cauthorn of New Hampshire, Matthew Cauthorn of New York, and Rachel Mason of New Hampshire and sister-in-law of Larry’s siblings, Regina Leister and Phillip Woodie, both of Maryland. She will always be fondly remembered as an Aunt and Great Aunt to many nieces and nephews, as well as she is survived by her faithful fur family members, Dora, Mama, and Goldfish her cats and her dog Buddy as well as her sons dogs Spot and Nugget.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Tuesday January 7th, and 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 8th, until the time of funeral service at 1 p.m. in the chapel of the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 91 Willis Street, Westminster (21157) with the Rev. Reginald Wright officiating. Online condolences may be made at www.myersdurborawfh.com.
