Alice Viola (Berger) Springer

June 25, 1927 — January 14, 2015

Alice Viola Springer, 87, of Fairfield, PA died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Transitions Assisted Living in Gettysburg, PA.  Born June 25, 1927 in Bonneauville, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine O’Hannigan Berger.  She was the wife of Charles Springer, who died in 1967.

Alice was a member of St. Anthony Shrine Parish in Emmitsburg, and was very devoted to the Blessed Mother.  She was a homemaker and mother, raising four children on her own after her husband’s passing.  Alice loved flower gardening and sewing.  She was hardworking, and took great pride in her family and the appearance of her home.  She was always willing to sacrifice, putting others’ needs before her own.

Surviving are sons, Donald Lee Springer and wife Jeannie, and Ronald Leroy Springer and wife Shelly, all of Fairfield, PA; grandchildren, Natasha Seltzer, and Kayla and Madison Springer of Fairfield, PA; as well as several nieces and nephews.  She is also remembered by close friends, Sister Mary Kevin Callahan, D.C., Jim and Jeannie Kuhn, Denise Sauvegeau, and the Harold Sanders family.  She was preceded in death by daughter, Wilma Lee Springer; son, John Michael Springer; and siblings, Lawrence “Pete” Berger, William Berger, Rosie Woodring, and Doris Ripple.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015 at St. Anthony Shrine Parish, 16150 St. Anthony Rd, Emmitsburg, MD, with the Rev. Lawrence Donohoo as celebrant.  Interment will follow at New St. Joseph Cemetery.  The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 210 W. Main St, Emmitsburg, MD.
