Alice Loretta (Martin) Drummond

November 11, 1922 — March 11, 2015

Alice Loretta Drummond, 92, of Westminster, Maryland died peacefully Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Golden Living Nursing Center in Westminster.  Born November 11, 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Laura (Ritter) Martin.  She was the wife of the late William F. Drummond, to whom she was married for 65 years.

Alice was raised in Garfield Heights, OH and graduated from high school there.  She attended John Carroll University in University Heights, OH before embarking on a business career as a legal secretary.  She worked as a company personnel director and office manager before joining the law firm of Sydney A. Galvin.  In 1968, Galvin started her on a new career path as Resident Manager of the Chesterfield Apartments, a 400-unit complex hailed by city leaders as a new beginning for downtown Cleveland restoration.  Upon retiring in 1993 after 25 years as Resident Manager, she was commended by then Ohio governor, George Voinovich and the City of Cleveland for her “community involvement and dedicated efforts on behalf of the Playhouse Square Foundation and the Downtown Cleveland Council.”   After retirement, Alice moved to Westminster to join her family.  She loved to travel, was a gourmet cook, and she loved to dance.  She resided at Brightview Westminster Ridge for eight years.  The staff and her friends there were very special to her.  Alice was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  In addition to her beloved husband, she was predeceased by dear friend, Robert Roy.

Alice is survived by daughter, Sharon Butler and husband, Dr. J. Douglas Butler of Westminster; brother, Gerald G. Martin of Stow, OH; nieces, Elizabeth Hollis and husband Warren of Hudson, OH, Barbara Edgar and husband George of Silver Lake, OH, and Amy Poole and husband Scott of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; granddaughter, Colleen Butler and husband Greg Schwartz of Seattle, WA; and great-grandchildren, Rowan Alice and Griffin Schwartz.

A private graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.  There will be no visitation.  Memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave, Westminster, MD, 21157 or to The Shepherd’s Staff, 30 Carroll St., Westminster, MD, 21157.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Westminster, MD.
