Albert John Rill

March 26, 1951 — March 8, 2025

Taneytown

Albert John Rill, age 73 of Taneytown, Maryland died Saturday, March 8, 2025, at his home, after a brief battle with stage 4 lung cancer. He was born on March 26, 1951, to the late George Calvin (Sr.) and Ethel Romaine (Caltrider) Rill. He was the loving husband of Barbara Jean Rill for 54 years.

Albert lived a life full of humor, love, and joy. He was a devoted husband, brother, father and grandfather (Pap). Albert was formerly employed at Cambridge Rubber in Taneytown, Maryland and later Dutterer’s in Manchester, Maryland. He dedicated many years of hard work to both companies but always knew how to make time for the things that mattered most—his family. Albert was a lifelong fan of the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Orioles and enjoyed following his favorite teams. He was a man of simple pleasures, with a deep appreciation for life’s little luxuries, like driving around Maryland and Pennsylvania, enjoying leisurely trips to lunch with his son, Rusty, tending to his perfectly manicured lawn, washing his yellow Ford F150 Lightening Boss truck, smoking his tobacco pipe, admiring vintage hotrods and reading the Carroll County Times.

However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his beloved wife and family, especially with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He deeply loved his wife, Barb, and was happiest when attending his grandchildren's baseball games or shopping at Wal-Mart with her. He really knew his way around Wal-Mart and could always be counted on to find just what they needed! Albert leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. One of his most memorable qualities was his infectious laughter and knack for telling short, incredibly funny punchline jokes. Albert also enjoyed riding around to visit family homes, always keeping an ear to the ground for the latest news. If there was anything happening in the family or the community, you could bet Albert knew about it first! Now, he rests peacefully without pain, and is reunited with his beloved wife, Barb, and his son, Brad. Though he will be missed, his memory lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Albert is survived by his children, Rusty (Barb) Rill, Johnny (Amy) Rill, and Dwayne Rill all of Taneytown; daughter-in-law’s Nicole Newman and Shannon Lamer of Taneytown; brothers, Harold Caltrider of Manchester, Van Rill of Manchester; Randy Rill of Taneytown; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; his caregiver Tiffani Dull; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara Jean Rill; son, Bradley Edward Rill; siblings James Rill, George Rill, Jr., Steve Rill, Barry Rill, Gloria (Rill) Wike. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 13, 2025, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore Street, Taneytown, MD 21787. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025, at the funeral home. The service will be officiated by Pastor Paul Leatherman III. Burial will follow at Grace United Church of Christ Cemetery, in Taneytown.
