Adolph J. "Ish" Phillips

August 5, 1929 — October 9, 2014

Adolph Joseph Phillips, affectionately known as “Ish” to friends, went home to be with the Lord in the presence of family on Thursday, October 9th, 2014 at Carroll Hospital Center.
Born August 5th, 1929, in Plainfield, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Andrew Adolph and Marie Kruzla Phillips.  He was the loving husband of Virginia Peney, recently celebrating 62 years together.
Ish was named after “Ish Kabible” because of his love for bebop music.  His first job was at Mack Trucks in Plainfield, New Jersey, then Bell Labs in Murray Hill, before retiring from DeDietrich in Union, New Jersey.  Ish traveled throughout the east coast playing music and entertaining before settling down and raising his family in Bridgewater, New Jersey.  He, along with his Big Band, were well known for playing local area concerts and became the house band for the Watchung View Inn where he touched so many lives with his music at weddings, parties and major events.  Ish was actively involved in the Gideon organization and Shepherd Staff.  He loved to share his love of the Lord with anyone he met.  Ish was a member of Grace Fellowship Chapel in Westminster.
He is survived by children, Bruce, and his wife, Brenda, of Virginia Beach, VA; Glenn and his wife, Pat, of Durham, NC; daughter in law Maureen Phillips of Wilmington N.C., Penny, and her husband, Bob Lynch, of Westminster, MD;  Ish’s grandchildren, Julie and Jason Nelson, Brandan Nelson, Kerri and Cale Phillips, Veronica and Jason Lloyd, Virginia Phillips, Victoria Phillips, Kaity and Mike McCrary, Hayley Phillips, Megan Lynch, Trevor Lynch and five great grandchildren, Riley, Tate, Wyatt, Caroline, and Emma.  He was predeceased by his brothers Edward and Anthony and by a son Kirk.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 13, 2014 at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster with Pastor Ralf Nies officiating.  Burial will follow in Meadow Branch Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10AM until the time of the service on Monday.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 8th at 2 pm at Grace Fellowship Chapel, 20 Bell Road in Westminster.
