Clara Virginia Beamer, 93, of Finksburg, died early Tuesday morning, November 22, 2016.
Born March 23, 1923 in Finksburg, she was the daughter of the late Harry Carroll and Elvie Maude (Harry) Hughes. She was the wife of the late Robert W. Beamer, who predeceased her in 1975.
In 1985 Virginia retired from Random House and dedicated the remainder of her life to her family and numerous volunteer efforts about which she was passionate. She was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church, and was also a member of the Gamber Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. As a member of the Carroll Hospital Auxiliary, she worked in their gift shop for 20 years, with 11 years as the gift shop buyer. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed crocheting and gardening. She was a well-known and excellent baker and cake decorator, making numerous wedding cakes and wedding cupcakes for each of her granddaughters at the age of 88. She shared her time and her talents with pleasure and could always be found baking or crafting for church or family. In recent years she especially delighted in spending time with her great-grandsons. Her happiest times were spent with family.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Elvie “Susie” and Jeffrey Scott of Westminster; granddaughters, Lauren Scott Janssen and husband, Ben, of Elkridge and Janna Scott Cleary and husband, Ryan, of Reisterstown; great-grandsons, Jeffrey Prescott Janssen and Brooks Raymond Cleary; sisters, Mary Alice Rosenberger of Westminster, Dolly Howard of Millers and Betty Young of Finksburg; brother, Harry “Bud” Hughes of Aspers, PA; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Helen Owings, Hilda Miller and Annie Hoff, and brothers, Howard and Henry Hughes.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 28, 2016 at Calvary U.M. Church, 3939 Gamber Road, Finksburg, MD, 21048, with her pastor, the Reverend Martin Brooks officiating. Following a luncheon, interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Finksburg.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3-5 PM at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis Street, Westminster. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary U.M. Church at the Gamber Rd. address.
