Ellen Louise Fundis Spies, 75, resident of Parkville, Maryland, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at her home surrounded by her daughter and granddaughters.
Born on December 9, 1941 in Baltimore, MD she was the daughter of the late L. Arthur and Virginia Seibert Fundis. She was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, Richard Emory Spies on January 2, 2017.
Ellen was Synod Assembly Planning Coordinator for the Delaware/Maryland Synod. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, being with “the girlies” and singing in the choir. She was the “Honored Queen” of Job’s Daughters in high school. She met her husband, Richard, at Luther League during junior high school.
Surviving is her daughter, Stefanie Ellen Spies and husband Steven Walter of Parkville; her son, Jeffrey Richard Spies of Ocean City, MD; granddaughters, Abigail Carrie Spies and Bethany Ellen Spies; her sister, Virginia “Ginny” Purvis of Westminster and her aunt, Eleanor Everett of Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Krug Chapel at Carroll Lutheran Village with Rev. Jimmie L. Schwartz officiating. Interment will follow in St. Abrahams Lutheran Church Cemetery in Hampstead. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-9 PM and on Friday from 1-5 PM at the MYERS-DURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 91 Willis St. Westminster, MD.
