Donald “Don” B. Sharpe, age 83 of Westminster died Monday June 20, 2011 at Carroll Hospital Center. He was born October 23, 1927 in Springfield, Massachusetts the son of the late William A. and Etta Burnett Sharpe. He was the husband of Jane Elizabeth Flickinger Sharpe, his wife of 31 years. Donald was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and he retired as a design engineer for the A.A.I. Corporation. He was a member of St. Mary’s United Church of Christ in Silver Run and served as consistory president and an adult Sunday School teacher. He volunteered/substituted at Westminster Elementary, Charles Carroll and Piney Ridge schools. Don was a gifted artist and enjoyed golf.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by siblings, Elizabeth “Betty” Christhilf of Westminster, Allen W. Sharpe of Massachusetts, Etta and husband, Frank Treuchet of Westminster; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rebecca Rickell, Dorothy Ellen and Stephen Dutterer and Darlene and R. Perry Lyons, all of Westminster; nieces and nephews, Kenneth and Bess Treuchet of Finksburg, Linda and Robert DeCarlo of Reisterstown, David and Elena Christhilf of South Riding, VA, Anne and David Dancu of Naples, FL, Candy and Michael Czerniak of South Hadley, MA, Carolyn Whalen of Biddeford, ME, Edward and Teri Sharpe of Parsonfield, ME, Stephanie and John Vick of Midlothian, VA, Timothy and Abbie Dutterer of San Francisco, CA, Robert Rickell of Hanover, PA, Michael and Christa Rickell, Brenda Lea and Jeff Stocksdale and Perry Scott and Dana Lyons all of Westminster; also survived by 18 great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, William G. Sharpe.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s United Church of Christ, 1441 E. Mayberry Road, Westminster with Rev. Dr. Richard W. Scott officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Silver Run.
The family will receive friends Wednesday 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis Street, Westminster and Thursday 10:00 am until the time of the service at the church.
